Principal Prunty
Thank you for visiting the Edmonson County Middle School webpage. It is my pleasure to serve as principal at such a wonderful school! In my six years as ECMS principal, I’ve witnessed numerous incredible achievements by both groups of students as well as individuals. Our teachers and staff work tirelessly on a daily basis to meet the various needs of all our students. As a lifelong resident of Edmonson County, I want what is best for all students who walk through our doors. If you ever need to contact me about any concerns, please call 270-597-2932 or email me at brandon.prunty@edmonson.kyschools.us.
For the upcoming 2020-2021 school year
Parents/guardians,
As the beginning of a one-of-a-kind school year begins, I wanted to take a moment to give you information about what the year will look like at this time. First, we will be going to great lengths to try our best to keep everyone healthy. From increased cleaning and sanitizing to social distancing throughout the building, we are taking all necessary steps to keep everyone safe to the best of our ability. Each day (once students are able to come back to in person classes), whether it is on the bus or walking in the building as a car rider or walker, all students will have their temperature checked and be required to wear a mask. When students are in their classrooms and socially distanced, they will be able to remove their masks. With some students on a virtual schedule and the rest on a staggered schedule, our class sizes will be much less than half of what they normally would be, so we’ll be able to maintain a large distance between students.
From an academic standpoint, we have been and will continue to be diligent in providing the best instruction possible, no matter which form of instruction you selected for your child. For virtual students, I think you will find that the Edgenuity online program is amazing. While it is an online program, our teachers have a great deal of control of the content your child will learn. For traditional students on a staggered schedule, they will be receiving online instruction from teachers from September 8 through September 25. We are planning for those students to be able to start coming back for in person instruction beginning on September 28. In the meantime, using Google Classroom, they will have regular interactions with their teachers, learning the same content they would have learned if they were in the regular classroom.
For students who need Chromebooks at home to access the online content, you can make plans to come by the middle school library on August 24, 26, or September 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or on August 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick those up. A parent or guardian will need to sign for those when you come by. I ask that you enter through the middle school side of the library and exit through the high school side. Please wear a mask while you are in the building as well.
I want to publicly commend everyone at ECMS for their hard work to prepare for everything that is ahead of us. Our teachers and other staff members are eager to give your child the best learning experience possible, given such an unique situation. They’ll spend hours and hours, both at school and in their homes preparing lessons and videos for their students. This is not exactly how any of them expected to be teaching students when they began their careers. But as always, they are great at adapting and tackling whatever is in front of them. I couldn’t be prouder to be the principal of ECMS- all because of the people that work here and our students.
If you have not completed online registration through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, please do that soon. There is also a document under “more” within the Parent Portal called “meal benefits” that all parents need to fill out as well. Thank you for taking care of all these requirements.
Finally, parents and guardians, I want to thank you in advance for your patience as we all navigate through this school year. Despite our best thinking and planning, I’m sure we’ll hit a few bumps along the way. We will do our best to smooth those out as quickly as possible. It’s going to take all of us working together to make this a successful year. We appreciate what you’ll be doing to help us out. In the next few days, we will be releasing a “virtual open house” video, to allow students to see the layout of the building and see their teachers’ faces. That will be posted here on Facebook, and we will send it through email as well. As always, if you have questions, you can call school at 270-597-2932 or email me at brandon.prunty@edmonson.kyschools.us
Sincerely,
Brandon Prunty, Principal
